I love puzzles and storytelling

I love diving into big problems, breaking them down, and coming up with scalable, delightful solutions.

I started my journey in creative problem-solving with freelance work in Graphic Design and Illustration, then moved on to being a Visual Effects Artist (VFX) in TV and Film. These experiences taught me the power of storytelling.

I approach product design guided by user empathy and informed by data. I excel at crafting compelling narratives around design solutions, getting stakeholder buy-in and ensuring everyone is on the same page.

What I’m passionate about in product design

I genuinely love almost every part of product design, but here’s what I’m most passionate about:

  • Taking complex usability issues and finding simple, delightful, and technically feasible solutions

  • Iterating and improving on flows based of feedback, data markers, or both.

  • Design as a valued partner with influence in high level product decisions

  • Close collaboration cross discipline, and opportunities to code, research, and ideate collectively

  • Learning new tools and strategies and testing them out during my day to day.

  • Building components and refactoring older components for a larger audience or for new interactions

  • Prototyping and interaction design!!!

Why did I leave the film industry?

I worked on properties like ‘Agents of Shield’ and ‘Westworld’. I loved the challenging problems and creativity, but I did not like how every decision was made for profit.

It was upsetting for me to work on things that audiences clearly did not want. I also did not appreciate the lack of impact I had, as VFX was in post production and by that point we were responsible for doing clean up.

When I learned about user experience on a grueling VR gig, it opened up a whole new world for me. I really resonated with development rooted in user feedback and rooted in reality. And it sounded like a dream to have an impactful, creative role.

Fun facts!

Along with being a puzzle lover, I also love:

  • Bold colors

  • Iced coffee

  • Nature (swamps, lakes, and oceans in particular)

  • Beyoncé

  • Clowning around

I run a non-profit focused on creative resources for Muslim women and girls, The Kawthar Project. In my free-time, I nurture my plants and read books.

I also love to be artistic. My mediums of choice are linocut (stamp carving) and stencils. I’ve been a digital illustrator for years but I am now branching out into gouache. I’m very into tie-dye. Really, I just love art and design.
